We do everything we can to make sure our ATMs are operated securely in safe locations.
We've put together some tips to help you stay safe when you use an ATM.
10 tips for using an ATM safely
-
Check your surroundings. Use an ATM that's visible and well lit, or choose another one.
-
Keep your distance from people in the queue. Make sure that you have space to use the ATM without others looking over your shoulder. Don't accept help from people you don't know.
-
Have your card and PIN ready. Never write your PIN down or share it with someone else.
-
Protect your PIN. Use your hand to cover the PIN as you enter it, making sure that no one can see the numbers you enter.
-
Follow the ATMs instructions carefully. Enter the required information only when prompted.
-
Put your cash, card and receipt away immediately. Count your cash and check your receipt in private.
-
If something doesn't look right, cancel the transaction and move away. Trust your gut and contact the police if you have concerns.
-
Report lost or stolen cards to your card issuer immediately.
-
Contact your card issuer if the machine captures your card. They will block your card and issue you with a new one.
- Check your account and statements regularly. Keep your ATM receipts until you've been able to check them against your bank statement.
