Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) allows you to withdraw cash overseas in your home currency.
What are the benefits of DCC?
DCC makes it easier to understand the amount of money you're withdrawing.
When you choose to see the amount of money your withdrawing in your home currency, it means that you don't have to do the currency conversion yourself.
What should I know about DCC?
DCC can mean that the withdrawal costs you more money in fees than it would have done if you'd withdrawn money in the currency of the country you're visiting.
Example - using your Polish złoty card in Spain
- If you're in Spain and use your Polish złoty card to withdraw cash, the ATM will give you the option of paying for the withdrawal in your home currency (Polish złoty) or in the local currency (Euros in this example).
- If you choose to pay in Polish złoty, the ATM will show you the exchange rate that your money will be converted at, and the total value of your home currency which will be debited from your account. This can be helpful because you know what you're being charged when you're making the withdrawal.
- By accepting this conversion, you agree to pay a fee for this currency conversion - the DCC fee.
What happens if I decline the DCC conversion?
If you decline the conversion, you'll receive your card issuer's exchange rate at the time your account is debited.
Whilst this means that you won't know the total amount that will be debited from your account in your home currency when you withdraw cash, you won't pay a fee for currency conversion.
